BHP Opponents

2002

Clinton

The Fourth non region game for the BEARS and the Second "New" team on the schedule. Since 1986 the Greenville News reports that the two teams have only played twice with both games being in the play-offs and Clinton winning them both. The last game was a 21 - 20 win by Clinton. Through the years, the teams have played a total of 8 times with Clinton leading the series with 4 wins to BHP's 2 and there have been 2 ties, in 1966 the first year of the BHP BEARS the final score was 7 - 7. Then in 1969 the two teams played to a 0 - 0 tie. Average points per game have been 13.6 PPG for Clinton and 10.1 PPG for BHP.

Since Coach Green arrived at BHP we have been playing Clinton in their Preseason Jamboree with Clinton winning the first game 7 - 6 and last Year's contest being called off due to dangerous lightning. This year we will once again participate in their Jamboree along with Laurens and Woodruff. Since both Clinton and Laurens are on or regular season schedule, we will play Woodruff. Clinton has a reputation of always having a good Football Team and young men that are ready to play. This game should be a another good one which also has some other points to generate further fan interest.

Coach Green played his high school football at Clinton and College Ball at PC located in Clinton. Coach Green also has a Brother on the current Coaching staff at Clinton. Family bragging rights will be on the line.

Although This Game will be played at BHP, Directions are listed for JV Parents that might be new to the area for the Thursday night trip to Clinton.

General Directions

Take Highway #76 out of Honea Path, SC and follow the "Laurens" and "Highway #76" Road Signs Towards Laurens. There is a bypass around Laurens, But it can be confusing if you are not familiar with it. Best bet is just to go straight through Laurens and Follow the signs into Clinton. You have to take a left at a traffic light on to North Adair Street. (I'm just not sure which light, However there should be a Gray Colored Church on your right, The First Presbyterian Church) . Watch for the Church and The Street Name and turn left!).  The High School and Football Stadium will be on your right with Parking in Front of the School and across the road in Front of the School. (Direction landmarks courtesy of Wilson Senn, PR Director of Newberry High Football).

Game Report !

BHP 14 . . . . . . . . . . . Clinton 0

#9 Verses #10.  It did not disappoint.  Clinton opens up with an approximate  70 yard run on 3rd down to move the ball down near the Bears Goal Line.  However, The Bear Defense Bows its neck and stops Clinton on (3) plays and then the Field Goal is no Good!  Later in the First Half, The Bears drive down to the Clinton side of the Field and the Offensive Line opens up a hole for a Quarterback keeper by #12 O'bryan Clinkscales for about a 40 yard Touch Down run,  The PAT is good and the Bears lead 7 - 0.  Later in the First Half #2 James Burns breaks another one this week with about a 70 yard catch and run.  The PAT was once again good and the Bears lead 14 - 0.

The Balance of the Game was for field position and several hard fought defensive stands by both teams.  There was a multitude of Great Hits from the likes of  #91 Andy Smith, #74 Joseph Groves, #28 Tyree Gray, #31 Brad "Hitter" Evatt, #66 Clay Shirley, #48 Brandon Gambrell and #14 Jeremy Caldwell ends up with a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and being named the Player of the Week.

Thanks to Debbie Rogers of Sports Action Photography for sending us some pictures once again this week.  I hope Angie Foster is able to check us out!  If you enjoy looking at this photos, Please stop by The Sports Action Photography section of the website and order your Personal copy of your Favorite Bear!
